Why did the passengers on the flight MH370 use their mobile phones ?

During recent days, everyone has been anxiously waiting for news about missing Malaysian Airlines flight. There are various speculations about where it has gone. For instance, maybe the plane is hijacked, or taken control by terrorists, or destroyed somewhere. The families of the passengers hope that people on the flight MH370 might be still alive because there isn't any proof that the plane is destroyed. Some communications experts explain the reasons for why the passengers on the plane didn't use their mobile phones. According to them, the plane's high altitude could have stopped passengers' mobile phones from connecting to base station on ground. Interestingly, the plane was equipped with satellite phone. Why not use them ? On top of that, one suspicious is there are the passengers who have fake passports. 

Anyway someone has influenced to change the direction of the plane. Besides, four or five passengers with fake passport had entered the plane. They

divert - (cause something or someone to change direction)
